Alexander Loy was interviewed by the German science magazine Spektrum der Wissenschaft for their story on the threatened diversity of the intestinal microbiome. The microorganisms in the human intestine play an important role for health. But at least in western societies, the microbiome is becoming species-poorer. Scientists are trying to preserve its diversity with special strain collections.
